As an audience member I would be most comfortable at a symphony orchestra concert because I am more familiar with the sounds of the instruments and how the performers are expected to play. I would be least comfortable at the Hindustani classical performance since there are more traditional sounds and I wouldn’t know what to expect from the performance. At a symphony orchestra concert, I would expect to see a quiet and formal environment with both the audience members and performers. Since the audience has to remain still so that they don’t distract the performers, and for the performers to be serious in their performance.

I have seen videos online of recordings on different symphony orchestra concerts that show large amounts of performers sitting on a stage with a conductor at the front, and the audience is further back and very still and quiet. Even though I have never seen a live performance, I would still expect the atmosphere of a symphony orchestra to hold these same expectations anywhere in the world.

I think that I would be most comfortable with listening to the Jazz club as an audience member. It is more of a chill environment where people are dancing, singing, and talking. Something that you typically wear at a Jazz concert is more causal clothes. Since the audience is actually having fun, drinking, and just vibing out to the jazz music, I really think that I would mostly enjoy being in that type of environment.

I feel as if the least comfortable performance for me would be at a chamber music recital. This is because due to the distance that there is from the actual performers and the audience is a little less. Knowing how less space there is this would make me feel awkward, and not make any sounds or movements at all.

I would be most comfortable in the Jazz concert as an audience member because the atmosphere seemed very relaxed and I like how jazz music sounds. I would expect to see the performers feed off of each other’s energy and work together as a group to create music that is pleasing to listen to. As a listener I would take the time to appreciate the sound of the orchestra but also feel free to dance to the music too.

I would feel the least comfortable at the Hindustani concert because I do not connect with the music. I don’t know what the woman is saying and I don’t like how the background instruments drag out the notes. I would expect to see the performers also feeding off of each other’s energy. As a listener I would show more respect to the performance by being silent and keeping my attention.

I’ve been to a live concert at the Lincoln Center where I saw many ballet performances. The expectations are similar to the Hindustani, quartet, and Beethoven concert. Audience members are expected to sit quietly until the piece is over at which they can clap. There is a certain amount of respect that is given to the orchestras.

I would be most comfortable at the Jazz club concert. I would expect to see the performers to be lively and loud and improvise by adding in their own singing, clapping and having solos. Jazz music is also something I enjoy listening to as it’s fun and upbeat. Since it was at a club, people could have also been getting food, talking, etc. which helps give it a more chill vibe, as well as a more intimate atmosphere. With Jazz, the instruments take turns playing improvised solos and are more spontaneous, which is something I would enjoy. Concerts I usually attend are lively pop or EDM concerts where the audience is able to sing along with the artist and dance. The performers also interact with the audience members, talk to them and overall it’s a fun interactive experience.

I would be the least comfortable at a chamber music concert. This is because chamber music performers don’t usually have that much interaction with the audience members. They play their instruments following their notes, and they don’t follow a conductor. It is also much smaller than the other concerts we discussed, which is something I am not used to as the concerts I usually attend are with a much larger crowd which I personally enjoy. Additionally, as a listener, I would be expected to sit and watch without being able to have any interaction with the  performers. When I attend concerts, I like being able to feel as though I am connecting with the performer, either through singing along with them or dancing to their music.

After listeing to the pieces of music that was provided, The piece that I was most comfortable and would want to attend is the Jazz live performance. I just think Jazz is a very positive and upbeat type of music. When I think of Jazz I think of people just dancing around and vibing to the music and people interacting with eachother and having a great time. It just seems like a place for people to hang out and enjoy music.

The one that I was the least comfortable would probably be the Chamber Music Recital. The whole atmosphere seemed very serious and official. Also the seats seemd very close to the performer. Any small disruptions would seem rude or unprofessional. I personally don’t like being in these situations and it would just make me not enjoy the music but concentrate on other things

To start off the most comfortable for me would be the Jazz concert because of the chill and relaxed atmosphere it has. In my previous concert experience where I would just be having fun, in a Jazz setting I seem it would be similar to where one can just feel the music. When performing the Jazz musicians just seem to be flowing with the music while also making the sounds fit all together and just right. But just seeing the performance creates a sense of calmness, and in the video people are still seen to be talking amongst each other while still appreciating the music

The concert I would feel the least comfortable would be the chamber music recital, because of the really focused and serious atmosphere in contrast to the Jazz atmosphere. Also it seems to be in a small space so it would make me worried about the movements I would make. The small setting, I would have to be wary in order to not disrupt the performance. This is why the chamber music recital would be the least comfortable for me.

There are different atmospheres and expectations when you attend different types of performances. The type of performance I would be the least comfortable in is the symphony performance, as not only do I think I’d be bored by it, but also you have to give them your full attention and dress very nice to attend. This to me feels very restricting.
I think the Jazz performance would be the on I’d feel most comfortable at. One reason is the place, it’s at a bar rather than a concert hall. This means the atmosphere is a lot more casual and relaxed. You could get up and do something else, and you don’t have to act or dress a certain way. You could just go and sit and relax hearing then perform. That’s why I believe I’d be the most comfortable at the jazz performance

After listening to the piece that was provided, I would feel the most comfortable being in the Jazz club audience. The performance was full of passion as the performer seemed to enjoy broadcasting their performance to the audience. Also unlike the other performer where the audience is silent, in the Jazz Club, everyone is interacting with each other, which makes the club seem like the go-to place for everyone that had a terrible day. Usually, the audience has to be silent till the end of the performer piece, but in this in the video, it showcased what jazz is really about. We can see both the audience and the performer enjoying it, which is where I would love to be in.

The place I would be the least comfortable at would have to be the Chamber musical recital because I would be rude there as the music isn’t the type I would be interested in. I remember attending one as a child, and the only thing I still remember about it was that felt that I fell asleep through the whole concert. I feel like this type of piece is more for the older generation than the younger generation as the performance requires more patience to be able to enjoy it. Also, in this type of concert. the audience is usually invisible to the performer, and they play as they are practicing alone, which makes it very boring.

After listening to all the performances, I would say that I feel most comfortable being in the live Jazz audience. The performance was very captivating and intriguing. It was lively, full of passion, and very upbeat. It seemed like everyone was enjoying the music and being there. The musicians didn’t seem super concentrated and it looked like they were just vibing out and enjoying what they were doing. Everybody was having fun from what it seemed. Reminded me of a cafe I went to during high school where they played live music during the summer, and it was an amazing experience. Even though I’m not a great fan of Jazz, this performance was amazing.

The performance I would feel more uncomfortable with would be the symphony orchestra because it’s basic and bland (no offense). I’ve heard Beethoven’s music a lot and this particular symphony was something I dreaded listening to in high school. Unlike Jazz which can be changed while playing, everybody follows Beethoven’s music note to note, making all the performances sound the same, and after a while, it gets repetitive and boring. I feel like inorder to enjoy this type of music, you need to pay attention and just be able to enjoy sitting and listening to this for 30 mins, which I do not have the patience to do. I would personally try to leave, but that would seem very disrespectful if I was an audience member. The performance from the musicians, however, was amazing and the way the music sounded was very commanding and intriguing, however, I do not think this type of music is for me.

After reviewing each video, I personally think I would be most comfortable as an audience member at a Jazz performance. The reason being is Jazz music gives me positive vibes. I feel like Jazz brings people from everywhere together. As I was growing up, my father loved playing a lot of Duke Ellington’s music in the car rides, Duke’s music makes me feel at peace whenever I get too worked up. Personally, I would like to see the performers have fun and enjoy their music as much as the audience does. I would be expected to act appropriately. Such as, talking at a low level, applauding when necessary, treating the people around you with respect, and most importantly having a fun time.

I think the least comfortable performance for me is at a chamber music recital. One reason is the distance between the audience and the performer is very important to hearing the music being played. As a performer you want to ensure that your audience can clearly hear the music, if you sit at the front of the stage you may not be able to hear all the sounds at the same time.
